Recording my film
After planning and storyboarding my film, we went out to record the shots. I printed off my shot list and went out with the camera and the tripod to film.

This is the first time independently recording for our own films. I am quite happy with how this went after looking at the footage. One of the things I realised when filming was that the higher shots I had planned were harder to make. Next time I would think more about the shots I am using and how practical this would be with the camera I am using. I decided to use the tripod for most of my shots to make still shots, however for shots my animated character is not in, I decided to create shots where the camera is moving with the live action to give a different effect to the other shots. I also wanted to try an attempt some practical effects so that it appears as if the animated character is having an effect on the environment. Here, I clicked record and kicked the door open at the bottom to make it appear as if the door is opening by itself, this way I can make it appear as if the animated character is opening the door. If I were to do this again, I would allow more time for filming. I would also make sure I am changing the height of the tripod evenly as some shots when looking back felt a little wobbly. This will interfere with animating some of the shots. I would like to learn next time more about the focus on the camera and also the exposure as some of my shots towards the end had a very high exposure and therefore may need to be reshot.
creating my film sequence

I took all my clips from filming and started to edit and cut them together to get the first export of how my clips will be lined up. This is not my final export as I still need to add the window smash using Maya and After effects before I can start to animate. To do this I will take the clip of the window and put it back into this sequence once it has been created. I am quite happy with the flow of this and how the clips worked together. I tried to focus on getting the individual clips to move smoothly between each other so the story was clear and concise. I did this by choosing to cut my shots based on where the last shot had stopped. The only place I am unhappy with that doesn't do this well is the end where it jumps suddenly from the stairwell to the outside. The biggest problem for me was how much time I had to include all the shots I wanted to. My biggest concern was giving this a big build up which I am happy with. However towards the end it does become very rushed and pressed for time. I've tried to make this work so that I can have a build up and still complete the story. I feel a quick climax could improve the overall style to this short film. Overall I am very happy with how this has turned out. There are a few things I could re film however I am overall very happy with how this has turned out.
