Working with a camera

clips.PNG

We spent today getting to try and record our own footage. At first we learnt a little bit about some filming techniques. The main one being the 180 degree rule. This is where the camera has a line on one side of the scene (eg- when 2 people are facing each other and talking) that it shouldn't realistically cross. Mainly because the angles and views of the scene may begin to get confusing for the audience, the other things we learnt were shots etc. After planning some footage to film for our practice project, we looked at how to actually use the basics of the camera and the tripod. We then took to the corridor, recording some footage to sequence together. We had director, camera person and actor roles within our groups. We were able to quickly get good angles for our planned shots and could easily create dolly shots etc. The thing we struggled with the most was actually figuring out how to navigate the camera interface, however this was made easier the more we played around with the camera itself. Next time I would thing more in depth about the angles and the kind of focus and lighting I want to use, this way when it actually comes to filming I can spend more time working out lighting problems etc that I will only notice on set.
