Narrative planning
What is the item of ‘alien tech’ you plan to make?
The item of tech I plan to make is an everyday object that transforms into a uncontrollable robot that poses a danger to the human race. I have decided I will take a futuristic style camera and transform it into a large bot that aims to destroys the human race. I would like to include a laser eye as the main threat. It'll use the lens as it's eye and the tripod stand will be its three legs.
How can you link this idea to an aspect of your contextual research into technology?
This idea will link to the continued discussion of will technology takeover and become too intelligent for man to control. This will be commenting on how computers have all of our data and a camera for example can see our every move. A study was shown were two bots started talking to each other in an unknown language to man, I would like to portray that if man annoys technology they have the ability to destroy us. This one case being just the beginning.
What is the ‘world’ of your story?
I would like to try and create my world with VFX so it is set in a secretive, unknown location. I would like to try and resemble it to be a run down apartment of some sort. With Ivy over the walls and a rough interior. I'd like to figure out what the possibilities are with editing the surrounds and how I can make this effective as I could change the floors to stone etc.
What is your storyline?
I would like my story to be set in a run down apartment place, where someone has been going to conduct experiments on the possibilities of technology for several years. He has a small set up with a camera and a desk in an over grown room. He's experimenting on the durability on a computer or some other device and goes to light this piece of tech. There is a camera set up recording the experiment in which the camera comes increasingly mad for the mistreating of the other tech. The camera comes to life it's lens turning red with lasers, it's tripod becomes legs and it follows the man as he tries to run. As they get outside after the bot has made many fires and broken things on the way. The man pulls something off his belt throwing it to the ground where it creates a big portal. The bot runs accidentally into this portal and he shuts it away trapping the bot in the world. The last shot shows the portal device wiggling as he throws it away.

Environment mood board ideas

adapting my storyline
Due to current circumstances, I had to adapt my storyline as I no longer will be able to film on campus. My location will now be a wood/ field area near my house. Before I record I need to figure out the storyline and make a storyboard so I can know my shots when recording. My idea feels more like a trailer for a movie then a complete short film.

A character is walking along the woods with their phone and starts to get frustrated when a text does not send. After trying to gain some signal, they throw the phone to the ground walking away. After they are put of sight, the a portal appears from the phone and out comes my alien weaponry. After growing into its ultimate form the weaponry starts following the footsteps of the character. We realise the protentional of this tech when it hears a noise and shoots lasers at the sound source. We see the tech approaching society and charging a laser, there is a fade out before the tech can begin to hurt society.
film preparation
Before filming we evaluated on our experience filming with the cartoon caper. These are some of the conclusions and things I need to think about when filming this time round:

I will want to pick an open space area, this way there will be a flat plane to insert my asset into and also it will be easy to track as the environment will be well lit. I am thinking of a field near my house that is next to some woods to record this. This will give my a lot of room to scale my assets.
One thing I need to do is consider the stillness of my camera when creating my shots, as last time this proved tricky in compositing things into my scene. I will try to use a tripod of any sort to keep the camera still but so I can pan it if necessary otherwise I will have to do more tracking and this will become difficult. This depends on if I am able to use a camera or my iPhone.
I hope to have a human asset in my shot, I am hopefully able to get someone to record whilst I record a short segment with the human asset, this is because I want to show humans underrating the power of technology.
To make composition better I think it is mainly about the different levels, from the ground to above and also the different shots such as wide shots, close-ups etc. I think also choosing what is in focus in shots is important as it gives a different depth to the scene.
Keeping the camera steady whilst moving is also important, this can be stabilised in Premiere if not steady enough or the best way is to be using a tripod for any panning shots or any camera movement.
With regards to what camera to use I think I will be using my Canon, linking in with this is what tutorials I will use. I feel the most useful tutorials for me would be ones explaining camera effects and lighting settings I could use with my camera as I don't have a massive amount of experience with using a camera etc.
