Using adobe premiere
I have learnt many new skills using Premiere. I can now confidently do basic video editing. I know how to put clips and audio together, and how to layer all these things on top of each other. I can add transitions and effects and know how keyframes work in Premiere. I have also been looking at how I can ease in effects and transitions by using a timeline like style for each added effect. I most enjoyed editing the audio, adjusting the volume and adding sound effects behind where I was not speaking. I would like to learn more about the audio side of Premiere. This project was visual heavy as there wasn't too much that had to be done with the audio. I would like to play around with the audio side of Premiere more as I haven't experimented with many audio effects. I would like to further develop my video editing skills in Premiere using the video effects more and playing around with how to control these. I really enjoy using Premiere.
Researching job roles
From this project I have learnt quite a bit about job roles within the industry. The biggest point I have found from my own research is the requirements getting into the industry. When first joining this course I was set on going to do an apprenticeship or go into employment after this however after researching am now heavily debating Uni as it will give me the best chance of employment and develop my skills much much further. I have also learnt a lot about the type of contracts an artist would have. In quite a few jobs they all appear quite similar, but looking into this gives me a chance to think about how I could be working in the future. Each webchat was useful in different ways. The webchat with Jeff taught me more about how important portfolios are to companies and that I should experiment with different medias and styles as if I can cover more bases companies will find it more appealing. The chat with Jelena made me more aware about the importance of doing a Uni. It made me realise whilst not essential, getting a degree along with a good show reel could massively help me. Whilst the chat with Taz taught me about the benefits of making mistakes and mostly about working your way up in the industry. Taz himself started working in the environment in a minor role and had to work his way up. Starting in a position as a runner is actually a good place to start as it gets you into that environment.
Planning and producing my film
I am most proud of the start of my video in general. I spent a lot more time on the beginning of the video so was able to include a lot more different elements. I am quite proud of the text I had added into the start as I was able to figure out how to add text and use keyframes to make it appear as if it is flying into the scene. I am also proud of the sound and how I was able to add sound effects along with 2D animations such as the car and the dog etc, I was able to make the music behind my speaking ease in and out of being quiet depending on when I was speaking. I would mostly like to improve the ending of my video in general. The ending was quite rushed and I wanted to get at least some visuals for the whole of the video. I was quite impressed with how quickly I was able to find and add effects, transitions and keyframes to make the videos somewhat interesting. If I were to go back I would add more sound effects as I feel that worked well and I'd some more 2D animations to go with these and I'd experiment with the video effects more.
Overall
After researching job roles I do feel more excited about the idea of pursing a job in VFX. However daunting the competition may be in the industry after looking at these different roles I feel keen to experiment more with what each job role actually does. I no longer feel trapped to one specific job. Also after hearing about how each job role works from people who are in the industry makes me more excited to start as it is a work flow I'd really enjoy no matter how tight deadlines are. My thoughts have changed as I am now looking into university and where the best place to study may be. I have also been looking at other parts of the industry as well, not just 3D modelling. I think I feel better about the industry overall as I know most successful artists have had to work their way up from runner and jobs like that. Moving forward I will be looking for smaller projects to be doing the side as this will help with looking into other aspects of the industry and help me build my own personal projects profile. with regards to college work I will be experimenting a lot more with ever project we do, putting myself outside my comfort as this will open new doors and allow for mistakes to happen which I can develop from.
