Project Title: Sixth Sense

Section 1: Rationale (100w)

Before starting this course I had little knowledge on what I wanted to do within this Industry, but also how to do it. In the first Units not only have I discovered my focus but also how to execute the basics of all of the segments of the Industry. Most importantly I have learnt what makes a good film, from shot choices to environmental effects. I think my biggest lesson was learning that it's everything surrounding the effect itself that makes it look realistic. Knowing this, I will spend a lot more time on the environmental effects rather than the main effect itself.

Section 2: Project Concept (200w)

In my FMP, I will be creating a short film in which someone discovers they have telepathic abilities, they then use these to stop someone before they commit a crime however end up getting themselves in trouble as the crime was yet to be committed. I want this film, rather than having several effects but little realism, to be more realistic and at a professional standard. The things that would benefit this the most would be looking at cinematography in how other shows portray a telepathic power as it is essentially an invisible power only portrayed through camera work, and experimenting with realistic environment effects in After Effects. To do this project I will be using Audacity to record Foley, Premiere to edit my video and SFX, After effects for any VFX and maybe Maya for any more complex effects or 3D backgrounds. I will also look into using a light bouncer and green screen for a more professional finish if necessary. I am keen to get this done in the timescale by using weekends and half terms to expand on my previous work. Peer feedback here will also be used to make my effects more realistic and useful for research, identifying what people would want from a short film.

Section 3: Evaluation (50w)

To evaluate my project I will be doing weekly evaluations, this will be a chance to make sure I am where I want to be at the end of the week. I will then do a big evaluation at the end so I can reflect on my film and process as a whole therefore helping in any future projects.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

Research will be extremely important for creating my film as it will provide a base for what my project will actually become. I will be using Primary research to complete surveys on who I feel my audience are, as well as others to see what would make them watch my kind of short film, not only will this be through surveys but also questions on other independent artists short films to see what stood out. I also would like to contact a practitioner and first-hand ask questions about the work they do on their projects, along with any advice they would give. For secondary I will be watching quite a few films and short films, as well as looking into videos about environmental effects and how to’s within After Effects. Furthermore, I would also like to read articles and books about the inspiration behind the action films and designs behind some of the biggest franchises. When looking at experimental research, I feel this is where my time will be best spent, as I will spend it practicing effects that I think I want in my movie and creating some practice runs of the different things I need in my film. I will spend a fair amount of time on this part of my research. Below are films and videos that I have already looked into that already have started to inspire me:

Project Action Plan and Timetable

To organise my time and plan my workflow officially, I have used a GANTT chart so I can see everyday I have doing this project more clearly. (See the Context- GANTT CHART/ Action Plan tab)
